The Doug Sherriff Shield is awarded annually in memory of former
Councillor Doug Sherriff for outstanding contribution to the community
of Sompting.
THe 2008 winner is Sompting Community Association stalwart Simone
Williams. She has overseen the running of the Community Centre since
its inception, and is a well-deserved winner of this community accolade.

The 2007 winner of the Doug Sherriff award is teenager Anneliese
Offord. At 19, she is the youngest person to have been nominated for
the award. She was nominated thanks to her tireless fund-raising for
St Mary's Church in Sompting. She is pictured below (left), receiving
the award from Doug's widow Margaret Sherriff at the May Annual Assembly.
