COLD WEATHER PAYMENTS

Councillors on Sompting Parish Council recognise that whilst a great many people benefit from the State Cold Weather Payments, there are a small number who are in real need and find that they cannot afford to heat themselves properly in the extreme cold weather. This includes, but is not confined to, cancer sufferers, for example.

Sompting Parish Council have therefore come up with a ground-breaking scheme to help such people who would otherwise fall through the net, and have allocated the sum of £1,500 for the financial year ending March 2009.

Whilst the Council recognise that this is not a large sum, it is a gesture aimed at the most vulnerable in our village. Small grants of £25 will be allocated on a discretionary basis to those who can demonstrate the need. All requests will be taken into account, and the most needy will receive the money.

Application forms are available at Cokeham Pharmacy, Ball Tree Surgery and the CAB offices at Lancing Parish Hall.

Completed forms must be submitted in writing by 31 March 2009 to the Parish Clerk at 71 St Thomas’s Road, Worthing, West Sussex. BN14 7JN, along with proof of residency within the Parish of Sompting, and a supporting letter from a suitable agency, such as the Citizens’ Advice Bureau, Cancer Trust or other recognised welfare organisation, or your GP.
